I use ITunes but am unsure of set-up and preferences. I would appreciate suggestions from experienced users who wish to avoid common problems which arise from default settings. Do you have a video tutorial on proper Itunes set-up? Also i have the current ITunes version, but do not see the set-up drop-down menu as suggested in your tutorial about how to connect a new I-Pod.

    Hi Bob,

There are 2 settings in iTunes which we recommend are changed before using Music Rescue.

Firstly, could you disable automatic syncing:

    1. Open iTunes.

    2. Go to iTunes --> Preferences (if you're on a Mac) or Edit --> Preferences (If you're on a Windows PC).

    3. In the window which appears, click the 'Devices' tabs from across the top, and tick the 'Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically' box (or the 'Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods' if you're using iTunes 8).

    4. Click OK and close the Preferences window.

Secondly, could you check whether disk mode is enabled on your iPod in iTunes.

To do this, connect your iPod and open iTunes. Click on your iPod from the left hand side and towards the bottom of the main window will be a tick box called 'enable disk mode'.

If this isn't ticked, tick it (also tick the Manually Manage Music box too), then click 'apply' (bottom right hand corner of the iTunes window).

Once these have been changed you're ready to start copying with Music Rescue from your iPod.

    Regarding our tutorial video's, I'm assuming you're talking about these video's: http://support.kennettnet.co.uk/faqs/music-rescue-video-tutorials

The drop-down menu which you are referring, is this the iTunes menu when the Preferences option is found? If so, I'm assuming you're using a Windows PC, and if this is the case, you can find the preferences window under the Help menu option instead - our video is demonstrating the process on a Mac computer, which has slightly different options, in different places.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks, Alana

Thank you for the tip. I do, indeed have a PC, and the set-up worked fine. I was looking for a video tutorial that might better describe the drop down menus of IPhone so I don't make the mistake of creating problems for myself which I'll then have to ask you or more appropriately Music Rescue to solve. I'm a bit of a novice.

    Hi Bob,

Excellent, I'm glad you've managed to change those settings in iTunes. Unfortunately, we don't have any other video's other than you've seen on our support pages.

Now that you've changed those settings, you're ready to start copying through Music Rescue. When you first open the program you'll be given 2 options, QuickRecover and Open.

QuickRecover lets you quickly go through the set-up and will copy everything from your iPod to iTunes, or another folder on your computer is you so wish. Just follow the prompts all the way through and a copy should be performed.

Open lets you pick and choose which songs/videos you want to copy, before giving you the set-up options as seen in QuickRecover. Once you'd selected what you'd like to copy, click 'Begin Copy...', in the appearing window you can click 'configure' next to each type of media for the set-up options.

Once you are happy with the options selected, click 'Begin Copy' and the copying process will start.

Take a look at our other online video's for tips on using Music Rescue, and just let me know if you have any questions or other problems.

    Thanks, Alana
